The Supreme Court is a Battle for our Culture!

You know, I used to like Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) but he is making it pretty hard to keep that stance these days.  He is a member of the Senate Judicial Committee and he recently made some troubling remarks.

“I don’t want to turn over the confirmation of judges to special interest groups on the left or the right, and that’s where we are headed if we don’t watch,” Graham said in a Senate floor speech. “Special interest groups are important. They have their say. They have every right to have their say. But we cannot make every Supreme Court vacancy a battle over our culture.”

Here is my issue:  I agree that special interest groups on both sides of the fence lobby for just about everything in Washington DC.  I don't agree with all of them and neither should anyone else.  The US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) is made up of 9 individuals with life appointments.  That is spelled L-I-F-E.  You don't get a take-back if you decide or discover that you made a mistake.  It is very important that you get it right.

I can think of no single un-elected body that has a greater impact on our culture than the SCOTUS.  So, to make the statement that every Supreme Court nominee should not be a "battle over our culture" is ridiculous. Leftards have crucified conservative appointees in the past.  Participating in filibusters, character assassination through add campaigns, and generally blocked many appointees that didn't have the same political view that they did.  Robert Bork springs to mind in the recent past but a more recent example is the current Chief Justice, John Roberts.  BHO voted in favor to filibuster Chief Justice Roberts so I can't see him having much of a leg to stand on.

Judge Sotomayor is a progressive liberal with a gavel.  She has sided against un-born children, claimed that the 2nd amendment didn't apply to New York, and ruled that racial discrimination is fine, provided that the offended party is white.  She is an elitist that thinks racial and gender, in here particular case, being a Latina makes here some how capable of making better decisions than those stuffy old white guys.

The SCOTUS is supposed to rule on the constitutionality of issues not decide what is good or bad for society.  The citizens of each state have that right and it should not be infringed upon.  Senator Graham is wrong and he will regret ever voting to support the appointment of Judge Sotomayor. Unfortunately, so will the rest of us.

Discrimination is Wrong, Unless its Against Fat People

So, BHO has nominated Dr. Regina M. Benjamin to be the next Surgeon General of the United States.  Great, right?  She is Black, from a poor background, has worked hard and bettered herself and her community. Completely qualified to speak on healthcare matters, right?  Actually, no.  She is not qualified.

What?  How can that be?  Well, my dear readers, she is fat.  Since we are talking about being politically correct in this Blog, let's use overweight.  A lot of discussions are taking place around the water coolers of DC about the "qualifications" of this particular BHO appointment.  She is obvioiusly qualified if you use the standard BHO checklist:  Minority, liberal, grew up poor...I'm not sure if she has any tax problems but that would certainly put her over the top.  Throw all of that out the window now.  We have now found the one thing that you can't be in BHO's administration; Overweight.

I have a couple of questions:  1.  If weight is so important, then why is Sotomayor getting affirmed as a Supreme Court Judge?  She is overweight.  Sure, she is Latina, from a poor background, and a left leaning judicial activist but shouldn't all of that fall to the way side?  I mean, if you appoint her as a Supreme Court Judge what kind of an example will that send Americans?  Fat people...Oh, sorry...Overweight people can't be put in positions of responsibility.  They can't even control their eating.  What about the children?!

We are living in a world that places every emphasis on your race and sex as the ultimate qualifier for your employability (as long as you aren't a white/male then you are unqualified) .  My head is spinning.  I can't keep up with all of this.  Read the article (click on the picture) and do a little research about this Doctor.  I don't know if she should be appointed or not but I certainly know that the final qualifier shouldn't be her weight.

Come one come all.  Give me your tired, poor, uneducated masses.....Hey!  You fat people stay over there.

Is Health Care a Constitutional Right?

Congressmen John Conyers (D-MI) has stated that he will be introducing a Constitutional Amendment that will state that Health Care is a right guaranteed by the Constitution and the government will be forced to provide a plan.

This isn't a new idea sports fans.  FDR had the same idea with his second Bill of Rights in which he stated that you had a right to a job, house and education.  I will be adding a clip of that speech very soon.  I find it extremely troubling that the only time that most of these politicians talk about the Constitution is when they are wanting to change it.

In case there is any confusion, I will clear up  the issue for you.  No, the Constitution does NOT guarantee you a right to healthcare.  Just like it doesn't guarantee you a right to be happy, sad, rich, or poor.  It says you have a right to "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."  The results are up to you, not the government.
